House Council Minutes

The house council met today and the following minutes were recorded.

Year 9 – Cameron Bell and Joe Szweda
Safety locks on windows need to be replaced. This is already being taken care of and new restraints will be fitted soon on all new windows.

Year 10 – Elliot Whittingham
Year 10 are happy.

Year 11 – Louis Bossons-Sartain
An oven was requested for matron to provide pasties or hot snacks. Mr Settle will discuss this with matron and evaluate the need for it.
Year 11 would like to change rooms next term. Mr Settle will action this at Easter.

Year 12 – Sam Hallatt (Boarding) and Josh Hemsley (Day)
Boarders would like a paper towel dispenser in their bathroom. Mr Settle will investigate this further with maintenance and try to have one installed.
Year 12 have requested a more up to date games console for their common area. Mr Settle will look at the cost of a Playstation 3 but is hesitant as not convinced it will enhance social interaction in the year 12 common area at all.

The year 12 bathroom is to be looked at to determine best use for next year. It may remain a bathroom or it may be converted in to new rooms for day boys. Alternatively, it could be used as extra common room space to accommodate the increase in year 12 numbers next year. This will be reviewed before Easter.

Year 12 Mock Exams

There will be mixed emotions following the year 12 mock exams last week. Boys in year 12 should be actively encouraged to speak to tutors and teachers in the aftermath of their exams to establish what went well and what did not go so well, as well as to discuss any changes they may need to make to their practices in order to get even better results in the exams at the end of the year.

Year 11 Mocks

Year 11 mock examinations get underway this morning. The timetable was posted some time ago but it is also here for convenience.

Good luck!

Exeat Activity

Exeat is a good opportunity to let off some steam and recharge the batteries. Whilst many boys were still in bed this morning, the rowers travelled to Hammersmith to compete in the Quintin Head. There were a good many Skipwith boys racing and whilst they competed, Mr Settle took to his bike for some circuits of Richmond Park before loading the trailer and heading home.

Whilst we eagerly await the results, the photo gallery has been updated with photos from today's event. Many thanks to Leo Brandis for taking these.

The results are out! Juniors and girls a respectable 3rd place, but 1st place for the seniors. A great effort. Special mention for Henry Atkinson who came 3rd in the Juniors race, Matt Aldridge and Harry Vardigans who came 2nd and 3rd respectively in the seniors race. House Cross Country

Excitement is building for the house cross country on Thursday. Everybody's score will count as an average of everybody's time will be taken to determine the winners. Running has been key to nearly every sport at school in the last few weeks so we should be prepared. House vests are an essential piece of kit for the run, so hopefully everyone will look the part and run like the wind!

Rowers in Richmond

The senior rowers broke up the monotony of land training today with a race around Richmond Park. I noticed that on the start line the senior squad is full of Skipwith boys and of course Miss Satch. It was a perfect afternoon and the results were not too bad either.

Summer 2014 Exam Timetable

The exam timetable published on this blog for the forthcoming summer exams is now labelled as final. There are a few changes since the previous version so it is worth checking. It can also be found here.

House Communion

This evening the Reverend Cousins performed a short communion service in Skipwith. Always willing to make the most of our superb house, this time we headed to the depths of the basement which still retains many features from when Skipwith (or Shiplake Court as it was known) was a private residence. No photos as it was too dark down there and candle light was too dim but it was great to see so many boys taking in this opportunity.

Support

Tension is mounting as mock exams loom close for years 11 and 12. There is a lot of support on offer and you can see a breakdown of all support sessions offered by all departments to all year groups here.
